Free State Project
The Free State Project is an initiative to move twenty thousand libertarians into New Hampshire where
they can work as activists to promote a more liberty-oriented government. It's not officially affiliated with the Libertarian
Party although probably more are members of that party than any other affiliation. I am a member of the project
and plan on moving within a few years. I was already considering a move there, so it's relatively easy for me to make
the promise.
The FSP is based on the theory that Libertarians regularly get hundreds of thousands of votes for
President but spread their membership and funds over a broad area. Collecting the strength of US libertarians gives
us a smaller audience to persuade and more relative strength within that area. With the press, election victories and
political successes to be found in New Hampshire, libertarians across the country will have more power and people will join
the party.
Eventually I might add a question-and-answer style defense of the FSP, but for now I just wanted to
mention it and link people to it. Those who believe in smaller government, lower taxes, gun ownership, decreased
regulation of drugs and the economy, and freedom ought to consider the Free State Project or the Libertarian Party.
UPDATE: Kat Dillon, a Free Stater that has already made the move to New Hampshire and serves
as Volunteer Support Director for the FSP, has just e-mailed to tell me that somebody joined the effort and listed this site
as the reference point. So somebody read this little plug, visited the Free State Project from the link and joined from
there. That is pretty damn cool. Thanks for crediting this site, anonymous libertarian. That makes
my day.
